This election season and outcome has been a stark indicator that the work of YWCA is as relevant and necessary as ever. In this time of change and transition, YWCA remains resolute and focused on our mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. We stand ready to work with a new federal administration to continue to prioritize the safety and full equality of women and girls of color. We have worked for change since 1858 and we call upon all to join us as we persist in this effort in 2017 and beyond.
Locally, YWCA Kitsap County is heartened by the passage of Initiative 1491. Known as the extreme risk protection order, I-1491 sets up a process to allow law-enforcement officers, family members and others to ask a judge to keep firearms out of the hands of someone deemed a danger to themselves or others. YWCA Kitsap County will be working with our partners in the local law enforcement and judiciary to utilize this new law as an effective tool in reducing local gun-related domestic violence homicides.
YWCA is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, stand up for social justice, help families, and strengthen communities. YWCA Kitsap County is a member organization of YWCA USA which is part of an international movement serving over 2 million in the United States and 25 million worldwide. YWCA Kitsap County is the only State designated provider of domestic violence services in Kitsap County. To support our efforts, please apply to become a volunteer or make a financial contribution of any size.
The YWCA of Kitsap County takes great pride in providing services that offer hope and “new beginnings” for families affected by domestic violence. In fact, over 6,000 Kitsap community members access YWCA services, annually.
We could not do this without you. Your ongoing support truly “makes a difference” to the YWCA and the Families we serve. The YWCA of Kitsap County believes that TOGETHER we can strengthen our community. Thank you for believing in us.
